Join geologist Nick S. and naturalist Jen V. in viewing a Discovery Channel documentary entitled “The Day the Earth Almost Died,” about the great Permian mass extinction. Following the film we will hike up the Permian-Triassic contact on Fossil Ridge. The Permian fossils we will see are the innocent remains of a world soon to be destroyed. Also, great scenic views of Red Rock Canyon. Plants and animals encountered along the trail will be discussed. Moderately strenuous, 2.5 miles with 700ft. of elevation gain. Ages 10+.
